The Success of the Ingabo Ikingira Ubukene Cooperative

With the unwavering support of ADP, the Ingabo Ikingira Ubukene Cooperative—also known as "The Shield that Protects from Poverty"—has made remarkable strides in agricultural production and economic independence. This all-women cooperative in Rwanda, comprised of 34 dedicated members, has gained improved access to agricultural inputs, critical infrastructure, and invaluable training, setting it on a path toward long-term sustainability.
The cooperative has significantly increased its productivity thanks to ADP’s investment in greenhouses, a solar-powered irrigation system, and a dedicated training facility. In 2024, with a third greenhouse, the cooperative saw an astounding 481.6% increase in production, opening doors to more lucrative markets, including marketplaces in Kigali. Their bell peppers and tomatoes now have a steady demand, ensuring reliable income for the cooperative members and their families.
However, recent funding cuts and shifting livelihood patterns in the community present new challenges. While the cooperative had a substantial market last season, changes in local economic conditions may impact demand in the coming seasons. Continued investment and support are essential to sustain and build upon this progress.
ADP remains committed to working alongside the Ingabo Ikingira Ubukene Cooperative to ensure its long-term success. By strengthening market connections, enhancing resilience strategies, and adapting to economic shifts, we can help safeguard these incredible women's hard-won achievements.
